CLOCS

Construction Logistics and Community Safety

Transport for London, together with the construction industry, has created a new safety standard called CLOCS.

Safer Urban Driving

Safer Urban Driving (SUD) is a training module for lorry drivers that teaches them how to avoid collisions with pedestrians and cyclists.

FORS

Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme

FORS is a voluntary safety standard for all lorries and their operators (not just construction vehicles – see CLOCS above) and FORS membership is often required for public sector contracts.

Direct Vision

Better vehicle design is critical to reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured in collisions with lorries. New lorries with good all-round direct vision and a lower driver position, like the one in the photo, address the issue of ‘blind spots’ that require the drivers of conventional lorries to keep checking six  mirrors as they drive.
